Chassis Dynamometer Testing
Evaluating Drivetrain Performance for All Types of Vehicles
Excel Engineering delivers precise measurements of vehicle performance, durability, and emissions through advanced chassis dynamometer testing. Our comprehensive services cover a wide range of vehicles, and with ongoing capability expansion, we’re ready to meet evolving customer needs

What is a Dynamometer?
A dynamometer is a device used to measure force, torque, or power. A chassis dynamometer is specifically designed to measure these characteristics from the wheels of a vehicle, simulating road conditions inside a controlled lab environment. Our facilities use both absorption (EC / Water brake) and (AC) motoring dynamometers, allowing us to fully simulate real-world conditions.
NEW Chassis Dyno Facility!
Highlights:
- This new 27,000 SF facility is the largest facility the team has built to date.
- It will utilize both traditional “roller” dynamometers (required for 40CFR1066) and new hub-mounted dynos which creates a flexible and configurable powertrain test bed.
- This diverse equipment enables Excel to provide the full gamut of chassis-level and driveline systems testing and development needs:
- All sizes of vehicles from Motorcycles to Class 8 trucks
- 40CFR1066 certification
- Emissions development
- Transmission and driveline calibration development
- Durability / Mileage accumulation
- NVH issue resolution
- MPGe
- Battery SOH / SOC
- IUVP
- To be fully commissioned in Q2 2026
- Let’s talk and plan out your testing needs!

Small Vehicle (Side-by-Side, Motorcycle)
We are proficient at running tests for a variety of small vehicles and powersports equipment, including electric versions. Our current facilities feature dual rollers for ATV and side-by-side testing. This meets 40 CFR Part 86 guidelines and is fully capable of performing all customer-supplied test plans.
Starting in Q2 2026 Excel will also provide MPGe and Battery SOH (State of Health) / SOC (State of Charge) certification.
Emissions Testing
Our current chassis dynamometer facilities feature advanced instrumentation for vehicle-level emissions testing to 40 CFR Part 86 guidelines. We use a Constant Volume Sampler (CVS) system to collect vehicle exhaust gases, and our gaseous emissions are measured using California Analytical (CAI) Analyzers.
Light Duty (Available Q2 of 2026)
The new dynamometer facility will include high-fidelity testing capability for four-wheel light-duty (passenger) vehicles. It will have full 40CFR1066 capability and be available for all types of development.
Medium Duty (Available Q2 of 2026)
Our expanded capabilities will also allow for medium-duty vehicle testing. A hub dyno-style rig will be configurable, including a 5th AC dyno. This enables full chassis testing or full and partial driveline testing and development.
Class 8 (Available Q3 of 2026)
We are commissioning a new dyno for heavy-duty trucks that will offer a robust test platform to meet the demanding requirements of large vehicles. Chassis-level certification will be the high end of capability, with all other functions being available as well.
NVH (Available Q3 of 2026)
We’re expanding our chassis dynamometer capacity to include noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing as well. Let’s talk about your NVH testing needs for traditional ICE and xEV’s
